Revealed: When snow could hit West Midlands as temperatures set to tumble
Temperatures could fall to around 4C by the weekend
Snow could hit parts of the UK next week as new weather maps predict wintry conditions across England, Scotland and Wales – but will the West Midlands see any of the white stuff?
Weather forecasting models suggest snow could begin falling in northern Scotland on Tuesday, November 10, before spreading south across parts of Britain during the early hours of Wednesday, November 11.
Maps produced using the Global Forecast System (GFS) indicate that parts of northern England, Wales and the Midlands could experience wintry conditions, with some projections even showing snow reaching southern England.
The heaviest accumulations are currently predicted across Scotland, particularly the Highlands, where around 4cm could settle in some areas.
Other parts of Scotland could see between 1cm and 3cm, while smaller amounts are possible across northern and central England.
Counties including Staffordshire, Shropshire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire are among those highlighted in some of the latest weather maps, raising the possibility of snowfall close to the Black Country.
However, the projections remain uncertain and the Met Office has not confirmed widespread snowfall across the West Midlands.
For residents in Wolverhampton, Walsall, Dudley, Sandwell and Birmingham, the immediate forecast suggests a largely dry but increasingly chilly week ahead.
Tuesday (November 3) is expected to bring sunny spells and patchy cloud, with temperatures reaching around 11C.
Wednesday (November 4) will see similar conditions, with highs of 11C before temperatures begin to dip towards the end of the week.
Thursday (November 5) is forecast to be cloudier, with temperatures reaching around 9C, while Friday (November 6) and Saturday (November 7) are expected to remain largely overcast.
Temperatures could fall to around 4C by the weekend, with rain showers possible late on Saturday and into the early hours of Sunday (November 8).
Despite the colder conditions, snow is not currently forecast for the West Midlands during the remainder of this week.
Looking further ahead, computer-generated weather maps suggest the possibility of a more widespread wintry spell developing around November 10 and 11.
Some projections show a band of snow or wintry precipitation extending from Scotland through northern and central England, potentially affecting areas close to the West Midlands.
However, long-range weather models can change considerably, meaning the precise timing, location and intensity of any snowfall remain uncertain.
The Met Office's latest UK outlook suggests high pressure will dominate during the first half of November, bringing relatively settled conditions, with temperatures initially slightly below average before recovering.
More unsettled weather could develop during the second half of the month, with colder interludes possible later in November.
For now, residents across the Black Country and wider West Midlands are more likely to experience chilly mornings, cloud and occasional rain than significant snowfall.
