Villa skipper Jack Grealish has been called up to the senior England squad for the first time.

Grealish had originally been omitted from Gareth Southgate’s squad for the Nations League matches with Iceland and Denmark.

But he has now been added to the group after both Harry Winks and Marcus Rashford were forced to pull out due to injury.

The 24-year-old could now make his England debut five years after choosing to represent his country of birth over Ireland, who he represented at junior levels.

Grealish created more chances than any other English player in last season’s Premier League and Southgate’s decision to originally overlook him was criticised in many quarters.

The Three Lions face Iceland in Reykjavik on Saturday (5pm) before travelling to Copenhagen to play Denmark next Tuesday (7.45pm).
