People are being asked to donate essential items, such as non-perishable foods and toiletries, which will then be passed on to staff in Birmingham’s hospitals.

The Trust has donated £1,000 to University Hospitals Birmingham Foundation Trust (UHB) to begin the appeal, which has been launched in partnership with Birmingham Central Mosque.

A Villa Trust statement explained: “Due to their shift patterns and other vital duties, NHS staff find it hard to get to the shops.

“UHB is setting up shops in all of its hospitals where staff can pop in and pick up cupboard staples at no cost to them.

“We need your help in donating non-perishable foods and toiletries (tinned food, pasta, rice, shower gel, moisturiser etc.).

“All you need to do is text your name, address and details of items to be donated including quantity to 07971 394 056 and we will arrange collection. All items must be packed appropriately with health and hygiene as a priority.”

Anyone unable to donate items can make a donation to the UHB charity by visiting justgiving.com/uhbcharity.

Trust director Mo Razzaq said: "We felt it would be quite a good community campaign.

"It's not just aimed at Villa fans but the wider community. We have had some people contact us from down south asking us what they can do to help.

"We are looking to bring some positivity during what is a tough situation for the country."
