Villa youngster Callum O’Hare is still waiting to hear what the short-term future holds as he continues to prepare for the new season.

The highly-rated 21-year-old has featured in every one of Villa’s pre-season friendlies so far and admits he would love to stay and fight for a place in Dean Smith’s Premier League team.

But the likelihood is the attacking midfielder will again be sent out on loan and for now O’Hare’s only focus is on working hard.

He said: “I’d love to stay here (at Villa) and play in the Premier League but I’m not really sure with what’s going on yet. We’ll see what happens, I’ll keep progressing and see where it takes me.”

O’Hare, a long time star for the club’s under-23s spent the second half of last season with League Two Carlisle United, scoring three goals in 16 appearances as he got his first, regular taste of senior football. Villa will now consider sending him out to a club at a higher level, possibly in the Championship, in order to gain more experience.

“Carlisle was good for me, it was so far away so it was like I’m my own, cooking and stuff like that,” he said. “I grew up playing men’s football.

“In the under-23s it is all about progression. In men’s football you need to win and you will do everything to win.

“The boss always encouraging me, always helping me out. I think I’ve improved a lot under him, helping me out with stuff I needed help with. He keeps trying to progress me.

“I’m just going to see what happens, never say never. I don’t really know what’s going on. I’d love to play for Villa. I feel like I’ve been doing well.

“The vibe around the place is really good at the moment.”
