Aston Villa blog: Three points which could prove massive

Wow! Not sure how else to sum up the amazing 3-1 win at Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, we didn’t play great and rode our luck at times.

With Jed Steer's superb penalty save and with results almost all going our way, to get the three points could prove absolutely massive for us, writes Justin Hawthorne.

I said a few weeks ago that I hadn’t given up on the top six but thought we needed to go on a massive winning run, that was more in hope than expectation - but we really have turned the season around massively in the last few weeks.

While Jack Grealish was a bit quiet again on Saturday, his influence and contribution over the last six games can’t be ignored and there can’t be many new captains who have started there new role with six straight wins.

Once again, I can’t single any one player out over any others as we have quite a few going through purple patches at the moment and long may it continue, well just another nine games will do it.

We face another couple of crucial games this week with another tricky looking away trip to relegation-threatened Rotherham, who don’t have too bad a home record and then onto a real cracker at home to Bristol City next Saturday, we could really consolidate our top six position with four to six points out of the next two games.

I think Dean might shuffle the starting XI on Wednesday as we need to keep everyone as fresh as possible so two or three of the starting side could have a break with Albert Adomah, Conor Hourihane and Jonathan Kodjia all chomping at the bit to play.
