Aston Villa hopeful on Jack Grealish and Albert Adomah

Villa are continuing to assess Albert Adomah and Jack Grealish in the hope both could return for Saturday’s clash with QPR.

The influential duo have missed the last three games through injury, top scorer Adomah ruled out due to a hamstring problem, while Grealish has been suffering from a calf complaint.

Villa have slipped behind Cardiff in the race for automatic promotion during their absence, though Steve Bruce’s men did return to winning ways with a thrilling 4-2 win at Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

The QPR match comes at the start of another pivotal week in which Villa also visit Sunderland prior to hosting leaders Wolves.

Bruce said: “We are hoping can they (Adomah and Grealish) get involved for QPR and Sunderland. That has to be the aim.”

Injuries have been a consistent feature of Villa’s campaign, with Bruce having to make do without last season’s top scorer Jonathan Kodjia.

Fan favourite Alan Hutton is the latest to be sidelined after suffering a hamstring injury at Hillsborough, the same issue which saw fellow full-back Axel Tuanzebe miss the game.

“It’s a squad game and I’ve used something like 30-odd players,” said Bruce. “We’ve had problems to deal with so hopefully we don’t get anymore.

“Hopefully we get a few on the mend this week. That will help us.”

He continued: “It’s very difficult - not just in this league, any league. Especially when it is your forward players.

“I always think you are only as good as your forwards. The ones who can create, score a goal or beat a man. The ones who make a difference.

“We have been without Grealish and Adomah, who had been the talismen. Before that we lost Kodjia. In the middle we lost John Terry. We have had all sorts to put up with.”
