The winger’s sixth goal in his last eight appearances earned Steve Bruce’s team a 2-1 win over Fulham on Saturday, a result which saw them climb to fifth in the table.

Yet while delighted with form which puts him top of Villa’s scoring charts, Adomah has revealed he gets more of a kick from being a creator than a finisher.

The 29-year-old set-up more goals than any other player at the club last season but is still waiting for his first assist this term.

And he said: “When I get my first assist, then you will see me jumping for joy!”

He continued: “I like to score, don't get me wrong, I don't want to take anything away, but in my position I need to be more creative.

“Last season I finished with the top assists here and I'm trying to achieve that again but at the moment I'm doing the opposite and I'm scoring goals.

“When I score goals it's great, but for me, I'd rather have an assist.

“I'm scoring goals and we're winning games – but when I crossed for Ritchie (De Laet) on Saturday I was looking forward to putting that one into the back of the net.

“I'll be jumping for joy when I get my first assist in the league and I'm sure it will come. We're winning games so I'm happy with that as well.”

Adomah’s goal early in the second half was enough to decide an entertaining contest, after Stefan Johansen had cancelled out John Terry’s first goal for Villa.

A fifth victory in six games saw Villa climb into the top six for the first time since relegation from the Premier League and Adomah hopes they can now consolidate their position, before setting sights on catching the top two.

“We're in the play-off places – now we need to stay there.

“That's the next target I believe and I'm sure all Villa fans will agree with me.

“So the next target is to stay there and then push on.

“It's still early on in the season. Now we're in the play-off places I think we need to keep that momentum and stay in the top six.”
