England coach Fabio Capello has dropped Theo Walcott from his final 23-man World Cup squad but Gareth Barry makes the cut after passing a last-minute fitness test.

The Arsenal winger learned of the decision this afternoon, some four years on from when he was the surprise inclusion in ex-boss Sven Goran Eriksson's squad to go to the tournament in 2006.

Former Villa captain Barry, now of Manchester City, also made the final 23 after it was decided the midfielder's injured ankle would heal in time to figure in South Africa.

Villa are represented by three players with the surprise name Stephen Warnock, who was preferred to Everton's Leighton Baines as the understudy left-back to Chelsea's Ashley Cole.

As expected, James Milner and Emile Heskey - playing in his third World Cup - form the other two of the claret and blue trio.

Another star of West Midlands football last season, Shrewsbury-born Joe Hart, is also among the three goalkeepers in the squad, along with Robert Green and ex-Villa player David James.

Goalkeepers: Joe Hart, David James, Robert Green.

Defenders: Jamie Carragher, Ashley Cole, Rio Ferdinand, Glen Johnson, Ledley King, John Terry, Matthew Upson, Stephen Warnock.

Midfielders: Gareth Barry, Michael Carrick, Joe Cole, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Aaron Lennon, James Milner, Shaun Wright-Phillips.

Strikers: Peter Crouch, Jermain Defoe, Emile Heskey, Wayne Rooney.
