M6 delays after lamppost damaged in crash

Motorists faced long delays after a vehicle hit a lamppost on the M6 leaving it unstable

Lanes on the northbound and southbound carriages of the motorway were shut near junction nine for Wednesbury.

The crash happened at around 7am. Highways England said a lamppost and the central reservation barrier were damaged.

No-one is reported to have been injured in the crash.

There were reports of up to two-and-a-half miles of congestion.

Alerts were made on social media a fans began to arrive at Walsall's Banks's Stadium ahead of kick-off in the club's match against Rochdale at 3pm.
