Going, going, gone: Seller knocks £1,000 a week off price of home

A unique approach to selling a home has come up trumps – with an offer on the cut-price property accepted.

John Parker was selling a flat in Wombrook Court, Wombourne

Owner John Parker had pledged to reduce the price of the two-bed flat in Wombrook Court, Wombourne by £1,000 per week until it was sold.

It started off at £145,000 at the start of April and estate agent DB Roberts confirmed a bid has now been accepted, but remained tight-lipped how much for.

If Mr Parker had kept to his pledge the property would have been reduced to £142,000 when the bid went in.

And in the longer term, keeping to the £1,000 price cut would have meant that by 2020 the home could have been up for grabs for free.

The apartment was marketed as 'even better value compared to the one bedroom units, sales of which over the past 18 months have ranged from £150,000 to £174,000' .

Mr Parker argued that effectively meant anyone buying the home for £145,000 was getting two bedrooms for the price of one.

The advert for the property said: "Wombrook Court is a retirement complex for occupants of age 60 and over set in communal gardens with car parking.

"It offers a residents’ lounge and an onsite development manager and emergency call system.

"The property is in a secluded spot away from the road and has good sized rooms to include the two bedrooms, a living room with Juliette balcony, a bathroom and kitchen.

"The development is conveniently located being just a short walk to all local amenities."
