A 301-mile range has been claimed for the upcoming all-electric Kia e-Niro.

With its combined driving range tested to the new, more realistic Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure regulations, the battery-powered crossover’s cells can also be charged from flat to 80 per cent in 54 minutes when plugged into a 100kWh fast charger.

These are the claimed figures for the high-output, 64kWh power pack – delivering 201bhp and 395Nm of torque to the front wheels, allowing the e-Niro to accelerate from 0 to 60mph in 7.6 seconds.

As for the entry-level battery pack, that’s a 39.2kWh unit. Along with a claimed 193-mile range, it produces 134bhp and 395Nm of torque – the latter matching the more potent unit. The result is 0 to 60 in 9.6 seconds.

Full UK pricing, specifications and availability for the Kia e-Niro have yet to be revealed, but expect to hear more following the car’s public debut at the Paris Motor Show, which takes place from October 4 to 14.

The e-Niro will be the third powertrain variant of the Niro crossover, joining conventional and plug-in hybrid options. It’ll also be covered by Kia’s seven-year, 100,000-mile warranty, which extends to the battery and electric motor, too.

Pricing for the Kia Niro currently starts from £23,490 but expect to see something of a premium for the e-Niro.
