Wolverhampton Council is reviewing information and guidance and chiefs hope to reopen the facilities sooner, rather than later.

No official date has been given for the reopening of play areas and outdoor equipment.

Councillor Steve Evans, cabinet member for city environment, said: "During the summer holidays and beyond our city’s parks and green spaces remain open for all to enjoy. We are carefully reviewing all the information/guidance, and, subject to Public Health advice and the Covid-19 transmission rate, we hope to be able to re-open these facilities sooner rather than later.

“The health, wellbeing and safety of residents remains our top priority. And we urge residents to stay away from play areas and outdoor gyms until they’re officially reopened.”

More Covid-19 coverage:

Equipment will be inspected and maintained regularly. New safety rules will also be in operation, including using hand sanitiser before, during and after, and sticking to social distancing guidelines.

Councillor Evans added: “We will be relying on families to take responsibility for their children at all times, so they respect social distancing and clean their hands regularly.

“Even though it might feel like we have entered a new phase, we need to stay alert: especially given Covid-19 flare-ups in other areas nearby. Government social distancing measures are still in place and everyone should follow the guidance to help us avoid a local lockdown.”
