West Midlands Metro services were unable to travel into the city centre as a result of the crash.

The collision happened at around 8.30am on the A41 Bilston Road and left the tram with a smashed window.

There were no reports of any injuries.

Trams terminated at the Priestfield stop, instead of at St George's, for around an hour as a result, with metro tickets accepted on National Express buses.

A full service was resumed with minor delays from 9.30am/
