Bungalow plan facing approval despite petition

Plans to build a bungalow behind a house in a Wolverhampton street have met with opposition from neighbours, who have handed the city’s planning bosses a petition against the proposal.

The application, which is set to be discussed by the council this week, is for a two-bedroom property in the garden of 415 Stafford Road, Oxley, with access being gained from nearby Brunslow Close.

A previous bid to build a bungalow at the property was refused in November last year, and the latest application has been amended to meet the council’s planning guidelines.

Councillor Harman Banger, the council’s cabinet member for city economy, said: “The development has been altered so the orientation of the proposed bungalow readdresses the issues in the previous refusal, which related to adjacent homes.

“Nonetheless, we have received four objections from three different neighbours and also a twenty-five signature petition from twenty other different addresses raising concerns over parking in the area and the loss of green space.

“The roads around Brunslow Close are predominantly residential, so it’s the view of planners that a new dwelling would not be out of character here.

“We do not feel that this proposal would have a negative impact upon the occupiers of neighbouring houses in terms of being overbearing or invading privacy.

“Highways bosses haven’t raised any objections over the development’s proposed access plans either. There are already 10 garages in the cul-de-sac which can be used for parking, and each garage has space in front for additional cars.”

Planning bosses have recommended the application for approval, subject to a number of conditions.
