Despite her ripe old age, Marjorie Robertson is described as being "extremely fit" by her family and has enjoyed a "great life".

Marjorie, who now lives in Gorway Residential Care Home, in Walsall, was excited to appear in the newspaper today and to receive a card from Her Majesty The Queen.

She grew up in Birmingham and worked as a market trader during the 1960s and 1970s before moving to Jersey.

Her hobbies included travelling around the world on cruises, where she met her second husband.

She has been married four times where each husband died through illness.

She has two children, five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Her daughter-in-law Marlene Keenan, 72, said: "The manager at the care home said 'I have never quite met anyone like Marjorie'.

"She is extremely fit for a 100-year-old. She went into a care home after suffering a couple of falls. She can't walk without a frame.

"She has had a great life. She travelled around the world. She is quite a feisty character.

"Marjorie was driving up until she was 97. In her earlier life, she was a delivery driver.

"She was quite a competent driver. But she used to drive too fast for her own good."

Marjorie also enjoyed playing card games, in particular Bridge and Whist.

She toured around card clubs in Aldridge and Walsall playing competitors.

Her life began in Birmingham where she was born in Balsall Heath in 1920.

She grew up in the area before marrying in the 1940s to her first husband Walter "Bill" Keenan, the father of Robert, 74, who is Marlene's husband. Bill died in 1984.

She owned market stalls in Bloxwich, Great Barr and Blackheath.

Marlene described her as "a bit of an entrepreneur" where she would "try to make money where she could".

"She was hardworking, she worked hard all her life," said Marlene.

Her sister lived in Jersey and that inspired Marlene to move over their with her husband, Bill

In later life she returned to Aldridge.

Marjorie toasted her birthday with a small party among family members and friends at her care home.
