Kittens abandoned in Walsall Park
Two kittens were dumped in a pet carrier that had been hidden behind a tree in a park in Walsall.
The RSPCA is investigating after the helpless kittens were found by a dog walker's pooch in Reedswood Park last Thursday.
The carrier had been left close to the entrance of the park, but had been placed behind a tree where it was not visible from the path.
The flap of the carrier had been left open leaving the kittens vulnerable and frightened, the RSPCA said, while cat food had also been left scattered around the area.
The dog walker carefully secured the two kittens, thought to be just five months old, inside the pet carrier before contacting the RSPCA.
RSPCA inspector Beth Boyd, who is investigating, said: “To be left alone in an open pet carrier in a strange place would have been so frightening for these poor kittens and I can’t understand why somebody would dump them. Leaving food scattered around suggests whoever did it thought they were providing for them in some way but abandoning an animal is never acceptable.
“I took the kittens to our RSPCA Newbrook Farm Animal Hospital in Birmingham where they’ve been treated by the nursing staff there, as they were suffering with conjunctivitis.
“Both male kittens, one ginger and one black, have already improved in our care and are happy, bright and very playful. They're very lucky to have been found and rescued though.
