Woman, 72, killed as car hits wall at multi-storey car park

A woman has died after her car crashed into a wall at a multi-storey car park.

Emergency services were called to the car park at Ankerside Shopping Centre car park, in Tamworth, at around 10.45am this morning.

It was reported that a black Suzuki Swift had collided with a wall on the first floor of the car park.

The driver of the car, a 72-year-old woman from Sutton Coldfield, died at the scene.

Two ambulances, a paramedic officer, a BASICS doctor and the Midlands Air Ambulance were sent to the scene.

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: "Just before 10.45am, police were called to reports of an incident on the first floor of the car park. A black Suzuki Swift had collided with a wall.

"Emergency services attended and the driver, a 72-year-old woman from Sutton Coldfield, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. Her family will be offered support from specialist officers.

"Officers from the Staffordshire and West Midlands Serious Collision Investigation Unit are investigating the circumstances. They are appealing for witnesses or anyone with any information to contact police."

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "On arrival, crews discovered the driver of the car, a woman, in a critical condition with police already performing CPR.

“Ambulance staff took over and quickly began administering advanced life support.

“However, despite everyone’s best efforts it sadly became apparent nothing could be done to save her and sadly she was confirmed dead at the scene.”
