John Arnold, president of the Midland Ski Club, was found at the Champoluc ski resort on Sunday.

The 79-year-old is believed to have either suffered a stroke or heart attack or been left fatally injured when he hit a tree.

Mr Arnold, who had joined the club in 1974, had organised the annual training trip at different Alps resorts for 30 years.

He had been an active member of the ski club and held several committee positions over the years.

The Champoluc resort is the largest located in the Monterosa skiing area.
