The now flattened 18th-century pub in Himley had been left looking dated towards the end of 2022 due to thinning and discoloured roof tiles.

Matt Clifft, of Walsall-based Vintage Leadwork & Roofing, helped to give it a new lease of life and led the work on fixing the roof, saying the job was a dream one for him as his parents and uncles had all been to the pub in the past.

The work saw the old tiles completely removed alongside asbestos, then new tiles added to the roof matching the previous tiles as closely as possible.

Work started in December last year and was completed over a six-week period.

But then their work went up in flames when The Crooked House burned down on August 5.
