Work on the project has been ongoing during the lockdown and is now almost finished.

It has even been used to display tributes to the NHS during the crisis.

Steve Hargreaves, operations manager at intu Merry Hill, said: “2021 is an exciting year for Merry Hill as we continue to work on the multi-million pound transformation of the centre’s exterior. The project is now in its final stages and we have recently reached a key milestone with the installation of energy-saving LED lighting that can display different colours and designs.

“To help spread positivity amongst our local community we’re even using the newly-installed lighting to display uplifting messages. Some of our visitors may have already seen our tribute to the amazing work done by the NHS.” intu began a multi-million pound makeover of the outside of the centre last year.

The project, which will cost in excess of £10 million, aims to revamp the centre’s external walls and entrances to the Brierley Hill-based centre.

Essential

Contractors have been carrying out the redevelopment work which will replace cladding, remodel entrances and install big screens and energy-saving LED lighting that can change the colour of intu Merry Hill’s walls.

intu Merry Hill is currently only open for essential retailers during the third national lockdown.

Dudley had previously been placed in Tier 4 just after Christmas, which also meant non-essential retailers were forced to shut their doors.

During the latest lockdown, the shopping centre is supporting the local community by providing access to supermarkets, food shops, pharmacies, banks, opticians and the Post Office services.
