Cyclist, 19, suffers 'life-threatening' injuries in van collision

An appeal has been launched after an 19-year-old cyclist was with 'life-threatening' injuries after being hit by a van in the West Midlands.

The teenager was hit by a white VW Transporter Van as he travelled along The Radleys road in Sheldon, Birmingham, yesterday.

He was taken to hospital where he was said to be in a critical condition.

West Midlands Police have launched an appeal for witnesses.

Sergeant Alan Wood from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “We are currently in the process of piecing together exactly what happened in the run up to the collision.

“We particularly want to speak to a man who appeared to be running alongside and in company with the cyclist along Elmstead Avenue shortly before the collision occurred. I ask you to make yourself known to us as you may hold important information about how this collision occurred.

“We urge anyone else who witnessed the collision or has information and hasn’t already spoken to us to get in touch as soon as possible.”

The driver of the van stopped at the scene and is assisting with the police investigation.
