Killer who deliberately ran over father-to-be with car in Wolverhampton park found guilty of murder
Navpreet Singh was run over twice by a white Mercedes coupe in Phoenix Park
A man who deliberately ran over an expecting father in a Wolverhampton car park following a fight that broke out after Diwali celebrations has been found guilty of murder.
Navpreet Singh was run over twice by a white Mercedes coupe driven by Jashan Singh in Phoenix Park off Dudley Road in Blakenhall in the early hours of October 22 last year.
A jury previously heard that Navpreet Singh and a friend, Jaskarit Singh, ended up on the ground after being kicked, punched and struck with a rod during a fight with another group after their Diwali greetings were rebuffed by Mohit Singh. It happened in the hours after Phoenix Park hosted the city’s Diwali celebrations.
Navpreet Singh was taken to hospital by his friends but the 26-year-old father-to-be died of his injuries in the waiting room despite efforts to save him.

The Mercedes driver Jashan Singh, also known as Jashanpreet Singh, denied murder, claiming during his trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court that he went to his car and drove off because he was “frightened” of being attacked, and that when he ran over Navpreet Singh he thought his car had hit a “firework box or something like that”.
But under cross-examination the 21-year-old, of Cannock Road in Westcroft, had admitted lying to detectives about seeing Navpreet Singh standing up when in reality he was on the ground.
Today (October 26) the jury found Jashan Singh guilty of murder and of perverting the course of justice, having heard he swapped his clothes with co-defendant Mohit Singh and travelled to three different airports after Navpreet Singh’s death. His phone signal was detected by masts near Coventry, Stanstead and Heathrow.
Mohit Singh, 18 and of Tangmere Road, Wolverhampton, was also convicted of perverting the course of justice.
The jury had begun deliberating just after midday on Wednesday last week.
A third defendant, Prabhjot Singh, aged 18 and of Hounslow, had earlier pleaded guilty to an offence of violent disorder.
The defendants are due to be sentenced on November 30.
