Gunman caught on shop CCTV and Ring doorbell shooting two men in Wolverhampton as car alarm blared, jury told

Two men were shot in the head after attacking a parked car

A jury has been shown footage of the moment a gunman allegedly chased three men down a residential Wolverhampton street and shot two of them in the head after they attacked a parked car.

Duaine Mills and Syed Zain Ali were both fatally shot in the same volley just after 3am on September 19 last year. They were in the front of a silver Audi A4 in which they were trying to escape Harrow Street in Whitmore Reans, having just damaged a nearby parked black Audi RS6 with a hammer and a metal bar.

The man accused of chasing them and shooting them, Mohammed Maneer Khan, is on trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court accused of the murders of Mr Mills and Mr Ali, the attempted murder of Sahil Idrees, who was in the back of the Audi A4 when the shooter opened fire, and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

CCTV from outside the Stile Inn public house and a Casper Stores shop in Harrow Street, as well as Ring doorbell footage from a front door, captured the chase from the east end of the street, where the RS6 was parked, to the west end, where the A4 had been parked at the junction with Leicester Street.

Today (October 26) the jury trying Khan was shown footage of the three men who had just attacked the RS6 running back to the A4, pursued shortly after by a fourth man, as the car alarm from the damaged RS6 blared.

The prosecution alleges the pursuer was Mohammed Maneer Khan based on his appearance, clothing and prior movements tracked on CCTV.

At the time of the shooting Khan, 39, lived in Great Hampton Street, next to Harrow Street where the RS6 was parked. It is alleged he had driven the car that night but he was not its owner.

The footage played to the jury showed the three men in black reaching the A4 and entering it. In the footage the fourth man could be seen raising his arm as a loud bang was heard, followed by seven more as the figure slowed and continued approaching the car.

As the shots were fired the A4 was seen starting to move away before crashing into a parked white van and coming to a stop.

A member of the public walking nearby could also be seen stopping as the shots rang out.

After the eighth shot, the gunman was pictured pausing before running back down Harrow Street then slowing to a walk.

Footage showed members of the public approaching the car minutes after the shooting and finding the injured men.

Michael Burrows KC for the prosecution said footage also captured a man with an electric bike approaching the scene and Mr Idrees exiting the A4 then leaving with the man on the bike.

Mr Mills, who was 28, died at the scene and 32-year-old Mr Ali succumbed to his injuries in hospital five days later.

Earlier today the jury heard in the prosecution’s evidence that the owner of the RS6 had agreed to pay for paint protection film to be applied to it and that he had given an associate of Khan permission to drive it for that purpose.

The owner went on his honeymoon around that time and returned on September 9 or 10 but was told there had been complications in the process of applying the film, the court heard.

After the attack on the car and the fatal shooting on September 19, police contacted the owner to ask who had been driving it.

The prosecution alleges that the damage caused to the car was linked to an incident a month earlier in Manchester, in which a vehicle was also damaged.

Two other men are on trial accused of helping Khan obtain a false passport after the shooting. Khan has admitted a fraud offence in relation to the passport.

Yaseen Patel, aged 35 and of Bromford Way, Birmingham, and Samir Patel, 43 and of St Catharines Close, Walsall, deny perverting the course of justice.

Khan, now of St Catharines Close in Walsall, denies murder, attempted murder and the firearm possession charge. The trial continues.
