Delivery van stolen while driver dropped off parcel in Walsall - man arrested

The vehicle was taken from Kent Street shortly after 5pm on Sunday, October 25

A man has been arrested after a delivery van was stolen in Walsall while its driver was dropping off a parcel.

The vehicle was taken from Kent Street shortly after 5pm on Sunday (October 25), after the driver left it unattended with the keys inside.

West Midlands Police were called to the scene and officers subsequently located the stolen van in Forest Avenue, Blakenall.

A 38-year-old man was arrested following a short foot chase and taken into custody on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle.

He remained in police custody on Monday as enquiries continued.

The force has now issued a warning to delivery drivers to remain vigilant as the busy Christmas period approaches.

Police say groups of thieves have been known to follow delivery drivers and wait for them to leave their vehicles before stealing parcels from inside.

Drivers are being urged to secure their vehicles and remove their keys whenever they make a delivery, even if they are only leaving them unattended for a short time.

Further crime prevention advice is available on the West Midlands Police website.
