Nine more coronavirus deaths across Black Country, Birmingham and Staffordshire

A further nine coronavirus deaths have been confirmed in hospitals in the Black Country and Birmingham.

The deaths announced today mean 7,435 people have now died with the virus in the region's hospitals.

Five deaths were confirmed at the Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust, where 1,148 people have now died with Covid.

Two deaths were reported at the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, where the death toll at New Cross Hospital is now 788.

One new death was announced at the Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust, meaning 712 Covid patients have now died at Walsall Manor Hospital.

No further deaths were announced at Dudley Group NHS Trust or University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust, where the death toll stands at 715 and 1,358 respectively.

One new death was recorded at the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Queen Elizabeth Hospital as well as Heartlands, Solihull and Good Hope hospitals, taking the death toll there to 2,555.
