Members of New Life Worldwide Apostolic Church in Wednesbury opened the food bank on Sunday and will run it weekly.

Church minister David Abraham helped about 10 families with donated items last weekend.

He said: "Because of the Covid shut down a lot of people are going through mental health and poverty problems because people are losing jobs.

"We've got a rather large building here which is not functioning, we thought we'd do something to help the community.

"Some of our members of the church are doing food banks in their workplaces as well so we had had some good advice.

"People were welcome to come and take the food, we had about 10 or 12 families come through.

"At the moment we're going to do it every Sunday.

"There are signs outside on the road so people can be directed."

If families need help they can just turn up between 11am and 12.30pm on Sundays.

If anyone has items to donate they can drop it off between these times or order a collection from David by calling him on 07860883092.
