Wolverhampton Forum was awarded £10,000 from the National Lottery Community Fund Coronavirus Community Support Fund to run the kitchen for the next six months

The charity is based in the Elms Resource Centre in Whitmore Reans and will use the funding to provide the soup kitchen facility within the centre and carry out deliveries to those that are shielding.

It aims to act as an outreach service to build community capacity, by delivering a range of initiatives and projects that promote a positive role for Muslim's in the social, educational and economical aspects of society.

Mohammad Khalil, Wolves Forum chairman said he was delighted that the project had been recognised with funding to help communities in Wolverhampton.

He said: "This is a key step towards our vision and we are the first project in Wolverhampton to be part of this exciting new fund.

"Thanks to National Lottery players, we will be able to run the soup kitchen from our premises.

"This is important because it’s a much needed resource in this pandemic and will help us build partnerships with other organisations to support this good cause for the residents of Wolverhampton."

Alvina Ali, Wolves Forum secretary, said getting the funding was such an amazing achievement in unprecedented times for the city.

She said: "The ‘soup kitchen’ will support the local community in this difficult time.

"It will help to ensure that those who are elderly, isolated, vulnerable, homeless, low income families, BAME communities and those with underlying health issues need not worry where the next meal will be coming from"
