Driver dies after suspected heart attack at wheel in Walsall

A motorist died after suffering a suspected heart attack at the wheel of his car.

The driver a man in his 50s, died at the scene of last night's smash in Wolverhampton Road, close to KFC near junction 10 of the M6.

The road was blocked off at the Alumwell Road junction for more than an hour, causing tailbacks stretching back a mile to Green Lane.

Emergency crews were called to the scene last night just before 7.30pm.

Traffic was diverted down Pleck Road and Primley Avenue.

West Midlands Police spokeswoman Deb Edmonds said: "The driver was taken ill at the wheel and the car hit the kerb.

"He was pronounced dead at the scene."

No other vehicles were involved, she said.
