Anup Patel, of Goldthorn Hill, struck Naresh Kumar as he tried to cross Dudley Road, in Blakenhall, on March 3.

The 50-year-old was hit shortly after midnight at the junction with Goldthorn Hill.

Patel was tested at the scene and recorded 44 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35mg.

His Toyota Yaris had been travelling at 49mph in a 30mph.

Sergeant Dean Caswell, from the force’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Patel was not only speeding, but over the drink drive limit.

"Sadly, nothing can bring Mr Kumar back and we can only hope this conviction will provide some crumb of comfort to his family.”

Patel, 43, of Dudley Walk, pleaded guilty to causing death by driving without due care and attention while unfit through drink and was jailed for three years.
