Robert Field died in hospital on April 9 - nearly seven weeks after he was seriously injured in a hit-and-run collision

Robert Field was crossing Hoggs Lane, in Northfield, when he was struck by a dark blue car, near to the junction of Cheverton Road, at around 7pm on Saturday, February 22.

The 66-year-old suffered multiple fractures and a bleed on the brain.

He died in hospital on Thursday morning.

West Midlands Police are still trying to identify the driver of the car which was travelling in the direction of Frankley Beeches Road.

Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes, from the force's serious collision investigation unit, said: "We were devastated to hear about the death of Mr Field and it has strengthened our resolve to trace the driver involved.

"The car lost a wing mirror in the collision so they will have known what happened, yet still decided to drive on.

"Now is the time for the driver to do the right thing, come forward and tell us exactly what happened."

Mr Field's family have asked for their privacy to be respected.

Anyone with information about the hit-and-run is asked to call West Midlands Police on 101, quoting log number 2243 of February 22.
