West Midlands Police were called to High Street just after 8pm on Thursday (16) following reports of an assault.

The pair were taken to hospital with injuries not thought to be life threatening and remain there today.

Police are carrying out an investigation and are asking anyone with information to get in touch.

The incident had prompted members of the public to contact police with fears there could have been a stabbing.

But officers took to Twitter today to quell those rumours.

West Bromwich Police tweeted: "We have received some enquiries this morning regarding a disorder in West Bromwich town. We can confirm nobody was stabbed last night in the town."

"They were both taken to hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life changing or life threatening, where they remain today (Friday 17 May).
