Police are asking for more time to question a man over the death of a woman who was reportedly stabbed in Dudley.

The suspect, who is 65, has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after the 55-year-old woman suffered serious injuries.

Police were called to Hillside Road, Wrens Nest, at around 8.57am yesterday. The victim died at the scene, where the suspect was also held.

Today the force said it would be applying for a further 12 hours to question the suspect, and said police were awaiting results of forensic tests.

Police said yesterday they had been called to 'reports of a woman being stabbed', and that she had died at the scene.

The force added: "At this stage we are not are looking for anyone else and believe the parties were known to each other.

"A forensic post mortem will take place in due course."
