Helen Sheils, who had her leg amputated five years ago, had her property on Broadmeadow Green targeted by thieves over the Christmas period while away on a two-week long trip to Jamaica with her partner and two children.

West Midlands Police believe the incident to have happened during the early hours of the morning on Wednesday December 30.

Four TVs were stolen, iPhone, iPad, and iPod devices were taken by thieves, who are believed to have forced entry to the house, as well as Mrs Sheils' bank cards and handbags.

Mrs Sheils, who lives at the property with her two children, insisted there could be more items missing but she does not yet know due to the mess that has been made.

"We have been through a hell of a lot in recent years, I lost my leg five years ago and my dad passed away at Christmas three years ago," she said.

"We thought we would have a nice break over Christmas but I found out when I was over there and it ruined my holiday.

"This was the first holiday for my children too, I haven't been well enough to take them before.

"There could be other stuff missing but we don't know due to the mess. We have had to sleep on the sofa, we haven't been able to go upstairs because it is such a mess.

"I am not insured so we have got to build it all back up again."

Piles of documents, including bank statements, were left on the living room sofa, the upstairs landing and in the kitchen.

A window on the back door was smashed and is now boarded up, the lock on the kitchen window was snapped, and drawers and cupboards searched.

It is thought every room in the property was looked through.

A statement from West Midlands Police said: "We are investigating a burglary at Broadmeadow Green that is believed to have happened between just after midnight on 29 December and 5.30am.

"It is believed that thieves have forced entry to the property and have searched every room.

"Officers continue to liaise with the victim and enquiries continue."
