Summer's on the way for a day: Temperatures soar on Saturday

Temperatures are set to sizzle in the West Midlands with plenty of sunshine expected over the weekend.

A hot weekend will greet people in the region, with an average of 25C (77F) expected on Saturday.

In Wolverhampton, highs of 22C (71.6F) are expected on Saturday, before cooling to 18C (64.4F).

It comes as thousands look set to attend a free concert in the city, featuring four-time Brit Award nominees Scouting For Girls.

Temperatures will rise to 23C (73.4F) on Saturday in Walsall and will fall to 20C (68F) on Sunday as part of a mixed weekend of weather.

Dudley will see temperatures of 22C (71.6F) on Saturday and 19C (66.2F) on Sunday.

In Sandwell, residents can expect 22C (71.6F) and 21C (69.8F) on Sunday.

Elsewhere, in Stafford, people can expect highs of 22C (71.6F) and 20C (68F) on Sunday.

A spokesman for the Met Office said: "Saturday will be a fine day with plenty of sunshine for many.

"It will feel very warm in the sunshine, with light winds.

"Outbreaks of rain will spread eastwards across all parts on Sunday, with the risk of thunder.

"Fresher, cooler and breezier with sunny spells and scattered showers on Monday and Tuesday."

The difference between the two days is down to the high pressure which will dominate much of Saturday being replaced by low pressure on Sunday, the Met Office said.

People visiting London can expect highs of 26C (78.8F) on Saturday, and 24C (75.2F) the following day, accompanied by light rain in the evening.

Most of Scotland will be cloudy on Saturday, with highs of 16C (60.8F), but will see heavy rain on Sunday morning.

Northern England should stay around 18C (64.4F) on both days.

The average temperature for June is 17C (62.6F) and its likely that most of the UK should be warmer on Saturday.
