Owen Perks, winner of the Young Star category in the Express & Star's Great Big Thank You Awards invited William Owen to join him in an executive box at Molineux for Saturday's game against Burton Albion.

The pair met when Owen, aged 12, was singled out for his charity and community work at the awards earlier this month. The youngster has raised more than £1,000 for children dealing with a life-changing condition.

But the youngster was impressed by runner-up William, also 12, from Bradmore Wolverhampton, whose mum Margaret was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease when he was five.

William is responsible for helping to get her up and into her chair every day, putting on her splints, making her a drink and helping with the housework, along with dad Terry, a minibus driver. The Aldersley High School pupil was runner-up in the awards.

But Owen felt William does not receive enough of the spotlight and wanted to share part of his prize with him.

His mentor Jagraj Poselay, who nominated Owen for the youth award, said: "We read through the other finalists' stories and Owen felt William deserved more recognition.

"He was in awe of what William does for him mother and said he did an 'amazing' job, and when he won he wanted to share his prize with him."

Jag, who won Fundraiser of the Year at the awards, said the boys had a great afternoon, enjoying sandwiches and chips as they watched Wolves win the game 3 – 1 in front of a crowd of almost 30,000.

He said: "Neither of the boys were massively into football before the match but I think they've been converted.

"There was a great party atmosphere during the game and the boys were fascinated by some of the crowd's antics, including a couple of men who took their shirts off despite the weather. It was bitterly cold but we were nice and warm inside."

The treat was courtesy of radio station Signal 107, who have a box at the Molineux. The boys met presenter Dicky Dodd as part of the prize.
