And his car sing-alongs with his son while battling Alzheimer's has made him an internet sensation.

The 80-year-old, known as the Songaminute man because of his memory for songs, became an online star after a video of him singing with his son Simon on YouTube went viral.

And the pensioner has since signed a record deal with world famous record label Decca.

Ted grew up in Wednesbury – and his singing career began in the many local clubs and pubs.

And although he left the Black Country and moved up north in the 1960s, settling in Blackburn, he still has family here.

In the carpool karaoke video, which has since been viewed millions of times, Ted sings along to Quando, Quando, Quando.

Simon said: "It's been a weird few months. I first uploaded the video on my personal Facebook page and it had quite a lot of shares so I decided to post a video on YouTube with a link for people to donate to Alzheimer's Society on my Just Giving page.

"The success of it seemed to happen overnight and then the single came along out of nowhere too.

"Dad grew up in Wednesbury and he still has a lot of family there, he used to go back every few months.

"He was the eldest of 14 and I think that's why he has such a big personality, which makes good for being a good entertainer, I guess.

"He showed symptoms of Alzheimer's five years ago and was diagnosed in 2013."

Despite having difficulties remembering his family at times, Ted can recall lyrics to song with ease. He recorded Frank Sinatra's You Make Me Feel So Young at Abbey Road Studios in London.

The single peaked at number 43 in the UK charts and a portion of single sales will go to Alzheimer's Society on top of the £128,000 already raised so far.

"He's always been a big entertainer, so he's really enjoyed it – the song came on the radio the other day and you could see his face light up," said Simon.
