Additional en-suite bathrooms, a new reception area and more outdoor parking will also be provided at Atholl House in Compton.

The nursing home is based in Richmond Road. Work will begin this month and is expected to finish early next year.

Saroj Jakhu, director of Atholl House, said: "We are thrilled that we have secured funding for the extension work and that we can now press ahead with plans to improve and expand Atholl House.

"Demand for a space in the specialist home is increasing and so we hope that, by increasing our provision, we will be able to accommodate more local individuals in need of more complex care."

Atholl House boasts 58 single rooms over two floors and is able to accommodate a number of specialist care categories including Parkinson's, visual impairment and motor neurone disease.
