The plants, which reached up to 8ft and were found in Trysull, near Wombourne, were found following a tip-off from a member of the public.

Officers from Wombourne Police seized seven of the large plants from an overgrown field off Union Lane. They were cut down and removed.

The force tweeted a picture with the message: "With colleagues at a cannabis grow we found - never seen cannabis plants this big.

"The plants were all cut down and taken away by officers - cut several times to fit in the biggest property bags."

South Staffordshire Police appealed for anyone with information to get in touch.

Spokeswoman Faye Casey said: "They were in an isolated field off Union Lane in Trysull, found near to some derelict buildings.

"We are asking anyone with information to contact us on 101, quoting incident number 534 of September 25."
