Trio to be inducted into Wolverhampton Sporting Hall of Fame

Three more champions will enter an expanding sporting hall of fame next month.

Representing table tennis, judo and golf respectively, Fiona Elliot, Craig Fallon and Diane Bailey MBE will be inducted on September 15.

The Wolverhampton Sporting Hall of Fame pays tribute to amateur and professional sportsmen and women who have represented the city with distinction on a national and international stage. Fiona Elliot, a former member of Woodfield Table Tennis Club, represented he country 58 times.

She won numerous singles and doubles titles in the process. In 1990 she became the first woman in 20 years to simultaneously hold the national singles, doubles and mixed doubles titles.

Former Wolverhampton Judo Club ace Craig Fallon held both the world and European titles in 60kg events, which he won in 2005 and 2006.

He also won Gold at the 2002 Commonwealth Games and represented Great Britain at the 2004 and 2008 Olympic Games at Athens and Beijing respectively.

Diane Bailey MBE, a member of Oxley Park and Enville Golf Clubs, represented England in Home internationals from 1957 to 1971. She also represented Great Britain and Ireland in Curtis Cup fixtures against the USA in 1962 and 1972 and captained the team in 1984, 1986 and 1988.

The trio will be inducted by the Mayor of Wolverhampton, Councillor Christine Mills and the chairman of the Wolverhampton City Sports Advisory Council Peter Holmes MBE at Aldersley Leisure Village.

Mr Holmes said: "These sporting superstars have dominated a world stage and Wolverhampton has always been a part of their success – what wonderful role models they have become."
