The society will perform West Side Story daily until Saturday at Wolverhampton Grand Theatre.

The show is also in the year of what would have been its writer Leonard Bernstein's 100th birthday.

Scott Bird, sales and marketing manager at the Lichfield Street theatre, said: "The society normally only does one show a year and they have already performed Priscilla Queen of the Desert, but they will be performing West Side Story to mark their 80th year.

"It would have been Leonard Bernstein's 100th birthday this year, so to mark both occasions they have decided to take on two huge shows this year.

"It has been choreographed by Steve Alias who worked on a BBC2 documentary, so is a really reputable choreographer.

"It's a re-telling of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet set in Latin America.

"It's one of the timeless family musicals."
