A carol concert was held at the offices of Wolverhampton Council as way to celebrate the season and raise funds for an arson-hit primary school at the same time.

"The 12 days of Christmas", "Oh Little Town Of Bethlehem" and "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree" were just some of the carols performed by the Wolverhampton Council Choir and Wolverhampton Music Service on Wednesday, December 18.

Council staff and members of the public attending the concert made donations to Merridale Primary School, with £165 raised on the day.

The money raised will go towards the replacement of a wooden hut which was used for forest school activities for nursery and reception pupils.

The hut, which was due to be used as a Christmas grotto, was burnt to the ground and the school has launched a fundraising campaign to pay for a new building.

Choir member Bill Hague, Wolverhampton Council's Head of School Organisation, said: "It was great to be able to support Merridale Primary School in this way and to help everyone get into the Christmas spirit by performing a mix of traditional and contemporary carols.

"We were delighted to be joined by headteacher Simon Lane and are very grateful to staff and members of the public who donated to its fundraising appeal."
