Take Me Bak 'Ome: Noddy's back in town to open record shop - with VIDEO and PICTURES

Noddy, now aged 73, cut the ribbon at Rewind, on Church Street, Darlaston, in front of dozens of excited shoppers and fans.

Noddy, frontman of glam rock legends Slade, who was born in Caldmore, told the assembled crowd: "I love coming back to Walsall because it is the only place where people understand what I say."

He added: "I'm a big fan of vinyl, I have always collected it and it is still the best sound. I think the shop looks fantastic.

"There is a great cross section of vinyls from country right through all genres of music.

"My mates will be down here when I tell them because they are all vinyl junkies."

Some of Noddy's old records are on sale and he signed vinyls for shoppers during the grand opening on Friday morning.

Rewind was launched by Vicki Phipps and will raise funds to support people with dementia.

She also runs Mindful Gifts CIC (Community Interest Company), next door but one to the new vinyl shop.

That shop was set up to provide suitable gifts and activities for people with dementia.

This new shop has the same focus but this time uses the theme of music to help people with dementia.

She said: "The shop is set in the past and we specialise in dementia. So it is all about bringing back the memories for people.

"Because that shop was getting so busy and because vinyl was taking over the shop and we were getting a lot of people come in for it, we needed more space. Originally we brought vinyl here so we got carried away and thought 'just go for a vinyl shop'.

"We knew that records and music are one of the best things you can do to bring back memories for people, it uplifts mood and puts a smile on our face and it is all part and parcel growing up in our childhood and youth.

"Vinyl is coming back at the moment big time. We want this shop to bring back the memories for everyone and for a good cause."
