More than 200 young people had taken part in an opening night performance of Stafford Schools Gotta Sing before the weather turned bad and forced organisers to cancel all the remaining shows.

Pupils from Berkswich CE Primary School, Tillington Manor Primary School and Castlechurch Primary School took to the stage in the first show that did go ahead at Stafford Gatehouse Theatre on Wednesday.

More schools were due to take part but were unable to make it to the theatre due to the weather. The teeth-chattering conditions worsened towards the end of last week forcing performances planned on Thursday and Friday to be cancelled.

Schools had been closed and the venue also had its own heating problems.

Organisers SSPA have now vowed to reschedule.

The theatre was also back up and running as normal on Saturday for other events, including the appearance of SAS Who Dares star Ant Middleton.

SSFA said an alternative date at the end of March would be established. Any tickets bought for last week’s show can be redeemed later this month. Further details about the rearranged concerts will be released to parents via the schools.

A spokesman for Stafford Gatehouse Theatre said: “Due to adverse weather conditions, some performances of Gotta Sing at Stafford Gatehouse Theatre did not go ahead.

“The show will be rescheduled by the organiser of the event.

Information concerning the new date will be circulated by the organiser via Facebook. It will also be made available through the theatre.”
