Gabriella Gayle has written The Refused To Behave Series, which explores Afro-Caribbean hair, confidence and being comfortable with who you are.

The three books are My Hair Refused To Behave, My Hair Hates Hat Day! and My Hair Shrinks Again.

Gabriella said she wanted her books to help children feel proud of their hair and themselves.

“I wrote these books because I want every child to know their hair is beautiful and special – your hair is your crown!” she said.

“It might be wild, curly or do its own thing, but that’s exactly what makes it amazing. I want kids to feel proud and happy just being themselves.”

The books have been published ahead of World Afro Day on September 15.

Gabriella's achievement has been described by her family as a home-grown success story from the West Bromwich community.

The three books are available to buy on Amazon.
