Young Wolves keeper Harry Burgoyne has loan spell cut short

Young Wolves goalkeeper Harry Burgoyne has returned to the club after having a loan spell cut short.

Burgoyne was getting first-team action at Vanarama National League North side Lowestoft Town but Wolves have recalled the 18-year-old due to a hamstring injury to Jon Flatt.

The under-21 side have two fixtures next week - away at Villa on Monday and at home to Blackburn Rovers on Friday - and Flatt's short-term injury left Scott Sellars' team short of cover between the sticks.

Burgoyne is the second Wolves goalkeeper to return to Molineux after Aaron McCarey's loan deal at League Two side Portsmouth expired yesterday.

Ludlow-born Burgoyne played five times for Lowestoft, earning two man of the match accolades.

The highly-rated 18-year-old paid a glowing tribute to the non-league club on his departure.

He said: "Ady (Gallagher, Lowestoft manager) has given me the opportunity to add a few more stripes to my lapels, and the chance to play competitive first team football at still a relatively young age.

"Winning two man of the match awards was of course great, but for me it was about having to learn and adjust to a slightly more direct style of play, which can only be good for the football CV.

"If people ask me about my time at Lowestoft; which undoubtedly they will, I will be upfront and say that it was a really good experience, and that the people of Suffolk treated me very well.

"Playing at National League level is different to playing under-21s football, insofar that games are generally played at a high tempo and its more physical, but that's part of the overall learning experience to help hone your game."

Burgoyne signed a two year contract with Wolves in the summer.

He starred in a Wolves under-19 side that won a European tournament in Germany five months ago and was then called up to Wolves' pre-season tour of France when Carl Ikeme picked up an injury.
