West Brom happy to loan out young stars

West Brom are urging Football League clubs to give some of their young stars a chance on loan.

Boss Alan Irvine believes defender Bradley Garmston, midfielder Liam O'Neil, winger Kemar Roofe and striker Adil Nabi are all ready for first-team action outside the Premier League.

And he is hoping clubs from the Championship, League One or League Two will give them a chance. Irvine said: "In the case of some of the young lads, they may well go out on loan but we will see.

"Other clubs have to come asking first and it has got to be the right thing for them to do as well. There are some lads who are ready for League football."

O'Neil impressed in his first start in the Capital One Cup win against Hull last month while Garmston and Roofe have been given priceless experience in loan spells.

Garmston, a Republic of Ireland youth international, has had a spell at Colchester in 2013, making 13 appearances, while Roofe has played for both Northampton and Cheltenham.

He played six times for the Cobblers in 2012 and then nine times for the Robins during a two-month loan spell last season.

Centre-back Donervorn Daniels is on loan at Blackpool until January while Nabi, who returned recently from a cruciate knee ligament injury, has yet to get his break on loan.

Irvine said: "Liam O'Neil has obviously shown how well he can cope. With the performance he had in the cup, we are thinking 'you have done enough to be in and around the squad.'

"He would be a difficult one, whether or not we want Liam O'Neil to go out on loan or not – that's another matter. It's about looking at the individual circumstances for each of the lads.

"Kemar Roofe needs to be playing beyond Under-21 level, so does Adil Nabi and so does Bradley Garmston.

"But we can't make that happen, it takes another club to phone us and say 'can we have such and such a player on loan' and then we will assess the situation.

"In Donervon Daniels' case, a Championship club phoned up wanting him on loan. We said 'is he going to play? Yes, great. You can have him on loan, how long do you want him for?'

"That's been done through to January which is great, but if it had been a League Two club we would probably have said 'you can have him for a month and then we'll review it at that stage'."

Daniels has had previous loan spells at both Tranmere and Gillingham. The 6ft 1ins defender has played 11 appearances at Blackpool since joining in August.
