Green is refusing to give up the chase at the top

Penn skipper Mark Green will be rooting for a Hammerwich win on Saturday to boost his side’s chance of catching runaway leaders Pelsall.

Green’s men climbed into second place in the table on the back of a for-wicket win against Swindon with the Mount Road skipper insisting the title race is far from over.

“I still think Pelsall can be caught,” said Green. “They have a tough game against Hammerwich at the weekend and they still have to play us and Cannock.

“They have done really well in the win/lose format and we will have to see if they can carry that form on when we go back to win/lose/draw.”

“But I am pleased with how we are doing. We have had availability problems most of the season and we will be missing five again this weekend at Cannock.

“But the people that have come into the side have performed well and hopefully they will come in and do a good job again.”

Green played a key role in his side’s latest success, guiding them home with an unbeaten 52 after an early wobble in pursuit of Swindon’s 120.

Tom Nutting was the standout bowler for Penn with 4-24 on a day when the batters failed to fire.

“The pitch wasn’t doing anything, it was pretty flat as usual,” said Green

“We bowled well and then their opening bowlers bowled well, but there were some poor shots from both sides.

“We were 52-5 when I went in and it was just a question of trying to see off their opening bowlers.

“It helped that I was dropped on about 20 but we made it a lot more hard work than it should have been.”
