Reports say the pair, who worked together at Rio Ave, in Portugal, and at Valencia, in Spain, spent time holding talks in recent days.

Cathro, 31, lost his job at Scottish club Hearts this morning as the Tynecastle side released a statement confirmed a parting of the ways.

It is believed that he arrived in the West Midlands on Monday for talks with the Wolves boss, according to the Edinburgh Evening News.

But former Wolves player Alex Rae took to Twitter to claim Cathro was being lined up for position at the club.

Santo is thought to have given Cathro his break in senior football in 2012 by adding him to the Rio Ave coaching staff.
