Loanee features as West Brom youngsters fall short in quest for silverware
Albion’s youngster miss out on another PL Cup final after narrow semi-final defeat.
West Brom’s dreams of reaching another PL Cup final are over for another season - as they were narrowly beaten at Burnley on Monday night.
The Baggies had reached the last four of the competition - and were looking to emulate their recent success when they beat Wolves in a Black Country Derby final.
Alex Williams was in the side for Albion - as was Harry Whitwell who has been a key part of the first team squad in recent weeks.
Albion did have their chances in both halves of the game - but Burnley took their opportunities with Alfie Maughan bagging a late consolation.
The first chance of the game went to Albion as captain Souleyman Mandey drove forward and drew a save out of Burnley keeper Oisin Cooney.
At the other end Vernon Masara fired just wide of Ben Cisse’s post - while both sides were having chances.
Mandey was again denied before Eseosa Sule, fresh from his Championship debut, fired just wide of the mark.
The breakthrough did soon arrive as Ellis Clarke volleyed Burnley into the lead.
Matt Crowther then went close to a quick reply for Alboon as he headed over, before Mandey and Hindolo Mustapha went close.
For the on loan Crystal Palace man it was another chance to get minutes under his belt in the under 21 side - with first team game time limited since his arrival at the club in January.
Later in the half Burnley all but killed the came as Masara slotted past Cisse.
Full back Maughan did pull one back for Albion as he latched onto a pass from Jack Bray to poke home.
And striker Bray had a huge chance to continue the tie - but he failed to convert a pull back from Mandey and Albion bowed out of the competition.
