900-year-old Cannock church launches appeal to secure its future

The Friends of St Luke’s Church is asking the community to help fund essential repairs and protect the historic building for future generations

A historic church which has stood at the heart of Cannock for more than 900 years has launched an appeal for donations to help secure its future.

The Friends of St Luke’s Church is seeking support to fund essential work needed to keep the building safe, secure and weatherproof.

The church has been a place of worship, celebration and comfort for generations, and remains one of Cannock’s most recognisable landmarks.

However, the cost of maintaining a building of its age has put pressure on limited resources. Essential repairs in recent years have reduced reserves, leaving little money available for further urgent work.

The Church Council is reviewing spending, applying for grants, increasing community use of its facilities and organising fundraising events. It is also encouraging regular giving.

But the church says its current congregation can no longer shoulder the responsibility alone, warning that without wider support there is a risk it could eventually be forced to close.

People are being encouraged to support the appeal whether they worship at St Luke’s, visit occasionally or simply value its place in the town’s history.

Donations can be made through the church’s JustGiving page, directly to the church or through its regular giving scheme. People can also consider leaving a legacy gift in their will.
